How will the excavator on a boat get to the breach?
THERE will be a problem getting the boat mounted excavator to the breach on the Kennet & Avon.
The canal breached last Monday between locks 102 and 103 at Reading, with Canal & River Trust stating that equipment was being brought onto the site in the hope of undertaking a temporary repair.
The plan being to back-fill the breach with clay using a boat mounted excavator, that should then restore the water levels and allow navigation.
Lack of water
However, Justin Sheldon writes:
I was just trying to find out more about the lack of water in the stretch near Burghfield.
It looks like a failure of the shedding has caused the breach. I would be interested to see how a digger on a barge could even get there as sure you could almost walk the channel now. The picture is of the stretch heading to the lock, showing approximately 3 to 4 ft of depth missing. The photo was from yesterday.
