Temporary repair allows Ribble Link to reopen

A TEMPORARY repair to the broken paddle has allowed Ribble Link navigation to reopen.

A paddle on the Sea Gate Lock (5) of the Rufford Branch of the Leeds & Liverpool Canal caused its closure on the 10th July, but it has been re-opened after a temporary repair, Keith Gudgin reports.

Operating on single paddle

As is now often the case, the lock was operating on a single ground paddle and its failure caused the closure, its repair resulting in still only one ground paddle working.

Navigation opened this morning (Friday) but we are told it is only a temporary repair and boaters are requested to proceed with caution.

Second time this year

This is the second time this year the single paddle operation has failed, it closing the navigation in February whilst it was 'temporally' repaired.
