Works starts on the Aire & Calder breach

THE Canal & River Trust tells that 'a dam is to be constructed around the point of the breach on the Aire & Calder Navigation Main Line'.

This will enable the area to be pumped-out and work commence on a temporary repair to enable the navigation into Goole Docks to be reopened for its commercial shipping, Keith Gudgin reports.

Depends on the damage

The trust acknowledges that it is difficult to be precise as to how long a permanent repair will take as this very much depends on what damage is discovered once the area is pumped dry.
