Nene flood rated as 'danger to life'

THE flooding Nene caused the Environment Agency to issue a 'danger to life' major incident status with severe flood warnings.

The Northampton Billing Aquadrome Holiday Park was evacuated by the emergency services with more than 1,000 people being rescued and given emergency accommodation.

Special coronavirus status

Those residents who could be given accommodation with friends were given special coronavirus status to allow them to be accommodated.

This morning the alert  was downgraded from major incident status though the park is still under water, with Northamptonshire Police still not allowing residents to return.

More to come

Many parts of the Anglia region saw up to a month's worth of rain in 12 hours with the threat of more severe weather to come today.

The whole of the Nene is in flood conditions with a great deal of floating debris and reports of boats breaking loose on the river.
