DogRecuedBut luckily Jane Harper saw what happened and was just able to reach the animal and drag it out of the river as it struggled before being dragged under, Alan Tilbury reports.

Pleaded guilty

The police were called and caught Charlene Latham, 31, who pleaded guilty to causing unnecessary suffering to the dog Bella, and was released on bail pending her next court appearance in March.

After Jane dragged the struggling dog out of the river she discovered there was a carrier bag containing a large rock tied to her lead, that was pulling her under water.

Jane called the police who took the distressed Bella to a vet and she was passed over to the care of the RSPCA and is in good health following her ordeal.

The picture shows the massive rock that would have dragged the dog under, it not having a chance of survival but for the quick response of her rescuer.
