TERRY KEMP, long standing worker on the Kennet & Avon Canal, has won £2,500 from a volunteering programme, and is using it to further the waterway.

This is the Vodafone Foundation's 2009 World of Difference programme, that supplies funding to pay for volunteers to work on their chosen project, and in Terry's case, the Kennet & Avon.

A former British Waterways employee he has spent decades working on the waterway, so when he was chosen out of 1,100 applicants,  he is to spend two months working full time for the Kennet and Avon Canal Trust.

The trust was responsible for the restoration of the derelict and abandoned canal 86 miles long canal, which was reopened by the Queen in August 1990.
