Leeds & Liverpool lock flights restrictions removed

WITH all the recent rainfall the reservoirs supplying the Leeds & Liverpool Canal are now full.

This means that Canal & River Trust is able to unchain some of the flights on the navigation and so allow boaters unlimited access, Keith Gudgin reports.

The locks now clear

The flights that have now been unchained are Johnson Hillocks (58-64), Blackburn (52-57), Barrowford (45-51), Greenberfield (42-44) and Bank Newton.

However Wigan Flight (65-85) is still restricted  to 8.30am to 10am for entry onto the flight and 12.30pm to 2pm for exit off the flight.

Bingley Three and Five Rise

Bingley Three & Five Rise (22-29) are also restricted to navigation down the lock flights between 8am and 10am and up the flights between 10am and noon.  Afternoon passages down the lock flights between 1pm and 3pm and up the lock flights between 3pm and 5pm.

The Trust expect there will be no need to reintroduce those restrictions this season but state that boaters must 'double-up' in the locks to preserve water.
