Coxhead Swing Bridge re-opens

AFTER its most recent failure, Coxhead Swing Bridge on the Leeds & Liverpool was repaired yesterday.

The first attempt at repair failed on Tuesday, but contractors managed to get it in operation yesterday, Wednesday, Keith Gudgin reports.

Little faith

As we informed, this bridge has failed three times this year already, and local boaters have little faith in it being a permanent repair.

Crabtree Swing Bridge, another on the Leeds & Liverpool is regularly breaking down, having the dubious distinction of breaking down twice in one day!  As was published in narrowboatworld, like Coxhead, it is something of a joke amongst boaters on the waterway.

Complete overhaul

It should be obvious to everyone that these two bridges are in need of a complete overhaul, that would save the continuous cost of repairs once and for all.  And prevent their ever occurring stoppages, that surely as they get even more use, such are their conditions they are more likely to break down more often.
