Sunken boat brings another stoppage to the K&A

A SUNKEN boat has brought about yet another closure to the Kennet & Avon Canal.

The boat sank yesterday, Sunday, at Great Bedwyn, with the locks 65 and 66 now unworkable, Keith Gudgin tells us.

Being assessed

There is no intimation when the boat will be raised, or if sunk in one of the locks, only that the situation is being assessed.

The reason for the closure is put down to 'boat damage'.

Summit pound closed again

The queing boats were allowed through the summit pound this morning, but water level remains too low to allow a full re-opening of the pound, so once the boats get through it will be closed again until the level recovers.
