Still they come

YET another marina is planned, this time on the Kennet & Avon Canal at Lower Foxhangers Farm at Rowde near Devizes.

The plan that has been submitted to Wiltshire Council, shows the marina would be built on 13 acres of agricultural land next to the existing small marina, camp site and self catering homes, run by Colin and Cynthia Fletcher.

Land and Water is behind the scheme, which has built 16 marinas, including two of its own, with its spokesman Neil Warren trotting out the usual reason:

"The marina development will help underpin the increased use of the Kennet and Avon Canal and be a catalyst for the increased tourism in this part of Wiltshire.

It was stated that Devizes, Hilperton, Bradford on Avon and Bath marinas were all full, though they are not.

The Local Plan supports the development of 'off channel' moorings on the canal between Martinslade and Upper Foxhangers.

British Waterways is of course in support of creating more offline moorings.
