Arnonists fire narrowboat

A BOAT under restoration on the Aylesbury Arm has been fired by arsonists with most of the work destroyed.

The narrowboat Hope was set on fire where it was moored undergoing restoration at  Broughton, but by the time the fire people arrived it had caused extensive damage, Mike Griffin tells us.

The boat was purchased as a restoration project, works to be undertaken by outpatients at a nearby mental health institution, it was found that the improvement works (which have taken place over the last 12 months) provided valuable therapy for some patients.

Needless to say the action of the vandals has caused great upset to the 20 or so restorers involved in the work.  As Mike remarks:

"What a sad world we live in!"
