THE wintry wet and windy weather continued throughout Spring into Summer, the constant rain lashing the Fens with the odd dry day. So much for global warming, the Fens just had the wettest June on record with more than double the monthly rainfall.

THE last couple of months have been one storm after another, with short dry breaks in between, before the next one hits. Even as I type this column, the Fens are currently being battered by winds gusting up to 70 knots brought by the remnants of Storm Jonas, sweeping in from the Atlantic.

AS AUGUST slipped into September and through October the mild weather continued with only the odd days of gale force winds and rain. Temperatures remained above normal for the time of year. In effect the Fens did not really have an Autumn.

JUNE turned out to to be quite pleasant with long sunny days with little wind with the odd few showers on some days. Perfect weather for painting, as long as the boatyard were not sand blasting.

ON THE night of December 6th/7th, a tidal surge brought the worst flooding on the East Coast since the Great Surge of 1953 (which killed 307 people and destroyed 24,500 homes). On the whole the flood defences in the Fens this time held.
