Motorbikes not allowed on towpaths

IN SOME areas motorbike barriers are being removed from towpaths as they cause problems to mobility scooters that are allowed on towpaths.

The latest towpath to have its barriers removed is the Chesterfield Canal in Derbyshire, and Chesterfield Canal Trust is concerned that motorbikes will again appear.

Motor cyclists Fazeley2Report to the police

It advises towpath users who see a motorbike on the towpath to report it to the police on 101 and ask for an incident number, then if a pattern emerges it will raise priority and something can be done.

Police like as much detail as possible—time, location, description of bike including number plate (if there is one) and description of rider.  This of course applies to any towpath where a motorbike is seen using a canal towpath, that of course are very dangerous indeed on such a limited space.

The two motorcyclists in the above picture were speeding along the Trent & Mersey Canal towpath at Fazeley, and were regular 'visitors'.
