Lycra louts on water

THE upgrade to the towpaths into cycle tracks gave us the Lycra louts of cyclists, and it seems with the push to encourage more canoeists to the canals is bringing with it Lycra louts on water, writes Brian Hawkins.

With the good weather there is no doubt there has been brought more canoeists, as they were most plentiful on the Soar this week-end, and I have to admit they do not seem to be as careful with boats as they were.

Racing each other

Coming round the sharp bend going up towards Loughborough a couple came belting round on the (wrong) inside, as though they were racing each other, and as I was keeping to the right-hand there was not much water left, but they both somehow squeezed past yelling obscenities.

They obviously want some instruction on the 'right of the road' as they obviously had no idea, or did not care.  But should they have struck my narrowboat, it is obvious who would come off worse.  I expect though I would be to blame.
