A WALKER on the towpath of the Trent & Mersey Canal in Burton-on-Trent was shocked to find a man bleeding from stab wounds lying on the towpath above Dallow Lock.

This was at noon on Sunday, with the emergency services called, and the police and ambulance quickly on the scene. It was soon discovered that the man had serious stab wounds and was transported to hospital, but his injuries are not life-threatening, Alan Tilbury reports.

A spokesman for the police tells that a man has been arrested and is assisting police with inquiries, with the police interested in hearing from any boaters that may have been cruising the area during that time.
