More Gloucester development

IT WAS way in the time of British Waterways when the last big development took place by the waterside on the Gloucester & Sharpness Canal at Gloucester.

At that time, the development of Gloucester Quays was partly funded by British Waterways when the building industry took a downturn, with British Waterways loosing many millions of pounds when the development (pictured) collapsed.

Premier Inn

But today (Monday) another development started, this time at Bakers Quay at a cost of £50 millions, that will include a Premier Inn, restaurants, pubs and 100 homes. Alan Tilbury reports.

The development has been a long time coming, as various changes to the planning application caused much delay.

The Premier Inn will be the fist to be constructed, followed by the flats at what was the Provender Mill site, that was destroyed by fire last year.
