CaRT not wanted

IN 2014 I attended a meeting chaired by the Chairman of the Basingstoke Canal Society, writes Ken Churchill.

When he said the future of the canal, could be its transfer to CaRT I gasped out loud. He asked me why and I explained the risk of continuous cruisers [moorers] relocating in numbers to commute to London by train from Woking.

Not the future

All attending agreed that CaRT ownership/continuous commuters would not be their chosen future for the canal.

After the meeting the Chairman and I had a lengthy chat which included the proposed link 'North from Greywell to the Thames with a spur to Basingstoke. Sounds good to me. The Bats can reside in peace inside Greywell Tunnel... I don't know if any progress has been made on this proposal.

Another one off to Ireland
