Castlefield moorings to be cut?

WITH the news that planning consent has been given for a 24 apartment residential development in Castlefield Basin in Manchester comes the worry that moorings will be cut.

The development will comprise of one and two bedroomed apartments together with two and three bedroomed duplex apartments, Alan Tilbury reports.

'No Mooring'

With the development being right by the side of the basin and the knowledge that such residents often take exception to boats, there is the real possibility that very soon 'No Mooring' notices will be in existence where boats at present moor.

The development will adjoin Middle Warehouse, Merchants Warehouse and the listed viaduct in the basin.

But Ian Christie, Secretary of Castlefield Forum, complained:

"Many forum members felt this site shouldn't be developed at all but should be preserved and landscaped as the heart of one of the city centre's few major pieces of parkland.

The development however will retain some 'green space'.
