Canal closed to end of May

WORK by Network Rail at Pratts Mill Aqueduct on the Wyrley & Essington Canal is going to be further extended, and will most likely not be completed until the end of May.

A blast survey was undertaken on the aqueduct's metal trough that showed further extensive defects to those already discovered, that will need more work, Keith Gudgin tells us.

Much worse

The aqueduct is also known as Chase Line Railway Aqueduct, hence it being attended to by Network Rail. There has already been one extension to the stoppage, but this latest discovery is much worse.

Interested parties have a meeting tomorrow (Thursday) by the contractors to discuss their programme and the current situation of the works.

There is therefore no navigation between Birchill's Junction and Pelsall.
