NT to fell Thames trees

THE National Trust wants to fell a line of famous trees at Cookham Dean on the bank of the Thames, that is meeting with resistance.

These particular trees were made famous for inspiring Kenneth Grahame's The Wind in the Willows, and residents believe the Trust in acting in opposition to its mandate of saving ancient woodlands and their inhabitants, Bill Ridgeway tells us.

No consultation

Local residents are upset as the Trust simply told they were felling the trees with no form of consultation, and that the trees are home to wild orchids, scarce butterflies which is in direct opposition to its mandate of saving such things.

Residents are also concerned that the removal of so many trees will leave their homes exposed not only to wind but to traffic noise.
