Less income for CaRT

THERE are two massive billboards by the Stratford-on-Avon Canal in the city that earn Canal & River Trust money, but being described as 'clutter', they are to go.

The Trust has been earning cash from the two billboards on its land by the canal since way back in 1976, but this is set to end, Roger Fox tells us.

There for 40 years

Stratford District Council issued two discontinuance notices to London-based Primesight in October 2014, one for each board on either side of the canal, and though they have been there, occasionally changed, for 40 years, they are to go.

The company appealed against the decision, but was subsequently turned down by a planning inspector, who described the board on the McDonald's side of the canal as ‘clutter'.

Removed by March

The company has until March this year to remove the entire hordings that held the billboards, with the Trust then losing its income.

Thought the billboards are by the side of the canal, they face a main road into Stratford.
