Audlem lock open to public

ONE of the drained locks on Audlem Flight is being made open to the public to go down into it to see how it works.

Lock 13 of the flight on the Shropshire Union Canal will be open to the public this coming Saturday (21st) when they will be able to climb down into the lock, with the engineers in attendance to tell how it works and answer any questions.

Winter maintenance

The lock on the 15 lock flight is undergoing repair as part of winter maintenance, with the open day part of a six week work programme which will involve replacing the timber top lock gate as well as making repairs to the brickwork.   A temporary dam enables inspection of the full length of the lock approach and visitors can see the workings of the lock.

Attending the open day will be the Shropshire Union Canal Society whose members will talk about other restoration work being undertaken on the Montgomery Canal.

The open day is a free event and will be from 10am to 3pm. There are a number of places in the nearby village for refreshments.
