Rochdale to re-open

THE Rochdale Canal that was closed before Christmas after a vehicle struck Chelburn Bridge (42) is to be temporarily re-opened.

The parapet of the bridge was left unstable, so the navigation was closed, but this is being made safe with the waterway to re-open, but not until Friday of next week. the 20th of January, Keith Gudgin tells us.

Temporary repair

This however is a temporary repair, with the complete re-building of the parapet taking place around the end of March.

The canal is at present closed as the Trust deem it unsafe for boats to pass underneath with the parapet in its current unstable condition.
