Canalside development to include new marina

A MASSIVE development is planned by the side of the Grand Union Canal in Milton Keynes, that will include a new marina.

A 21 acres site by the side of the waterway at Campbell Park near Bridge 82 has been set aside for the development with residents being in favour after the plans were made public at an exhibition, reports Alan Tilbury.

Supportive

It was stated that 'almost 90 per cent of those who responded to the exhibited plans were supportive' of the plans that included 380 new apartments and town houses, a convenience store, a café, restaurant, pub and a nursery.

A new bridge over the canal will be built linking the new development with a 110 berth marina also included in the plans.

Milton Keynes Waterway

The new development is by the connection of the Grand Union Canal with the proposed Bedford to Milton Keynes Waterway, that was originally intended to link the Grand Union at Milton Keynes with the River Great Ouse at Bedford and is now renamed Milton Keynes Waterway Park.

Though first promoted 21 years ago, with the exception of a culvert being constructed for a road, very little has been achieved of this scheme to link the two waterways.
