Vehicle closes another canal

FOLLOWING  on the closure of the Lancaster Canal by a vehicle striking a bridge dislodging its parapet, another canal has been similarly closed.

This is the Chesterfield Canal, with a vehicle dislodging the stone-work on Greys Bridge at Clayworth, with the navigation now closed until inspection can be carried out, Keith Gudgin tells us.

Too much Christmas spirit

Perhaps drivers are having too much of the Christmas spirit causing them not to see the somewhat sizeable bridges, but it certainly cannot do the vehicles a lot of good.

This bridge at Clayworth is just eight miles from the waterway's connection with the Trent, so any boater considering 'doing' the Chesterfield over the holiday period should bear this in mind.

LATEST:

Barriers have been installed on the bridge and the navigation is again open.
