Email: Too many moored boats

Published: Wednesday, 31 August 2016

I have never before written to any publication in connection with boating, though I have had a narrowboat now for over 10 years, but the article from Roger Fox this morning has prompted me at last.

I cannot agree with him more about the number of moored boats, as the situation is getting well out of hand, making it often impossible to get a decent mooring by either shops or pubs these days as they are taken up, as he says, by permanent boats.

I am not just talking about the Grand Union either, but any sort of civilisation on a canal attracts the moorers like flies.

This holiday time has been the worst time ever for getting moorings as the few that are available are then taken up by hirers, if you leave it any later than early afternoon, and many boaters I have spoken to agree with me.
