Sketches at Dudley

Published: Wednesday, 04 May 2016

THE Black Country Urban Sketchers will be exhibiting their work at Dudley Canal Trust's new visitor centre, the Portal, over the coming months, open to the public.

This exhibition will feature sketches, watercolours and other works of art produced on location, on the group's recent ‘sketch-crawl' at the Portal, where the group sketched inside the tunnels and caverns and at Blower's Green Pumphouse on the canal.

Bringing artists together

Zoe Harris, Heritage Activities Officer at Dudley Canal Trust (Trips) Ltd, explained:

"It was great to see such a large group of artists all sketching and painting on location. The Urban Sketchers' mission, to bring local artists together, regardless of age or ability, to produce a creative record of their local area is great. It's something we really wanted to get behind here at the Trust."

The Black Country Urban Sketchers are the local group of the Urban Sketchers, a global community of artists who practice on-location drawing. They aim to tell the story of the Black Country through ‘sketch crawling', capturing their surroundings through direct observation drawing.

Run until June

The exhibition is free to visit and will run until the middle of June, 2016. Many of the original artworks featured in the exhibition will be for sale. Other local artists, photographers and special interest groups who are interested in exhibiting their work at the Portal are encouraged to contact the Trust. For more information call 0121 557 6265.
