K&A boats targeted by burglars

NARROWBOATS on the Kennet & Avon Canal are being targeted by burglars at the rate of one a day.

Five boats moored along the waterway around Pewsey and Trowbridge have been broken into within five days, Alan Tilbury tells us.

Breaking padlocks

We have just been informed that a further boat has been broken into in the area, all by the same method of simply breaking off the padlock on the doors and gaining entry, with all the boats having items stolen and left in a mess as lockers, cupboards and drawers are emptied to find anything of re-sale value.

The police in the areas are telling boaters to improve their security, and not rely on a simple padlock, as this is no real deterrent to the thieves.

Varying times

The boats were broken into last week at varying times, and in varying situations, but all by the same method, with a wide range of items stolen, and the police believing they are all carried out by the same person(s)
