Boats in water—horses on towpath

IT SEEMS one horse does not realise that the canal is for the boat and the towpath is for horses.

One horse took to the water of the Trent & Mersey Canal at Sandbach and needed the fire brigade for its rescue, Keith Gudgin tells us.

It is not known how the horse managed to get into the canal, but it was unable to get out owing to the height of the bank that was protected with Armco.

But the fire people managed to get a sling under it and hoist in out by a crane and get it back on the towpath.
