Week's first failure

A NEW week and the first  failure, closing a waterway—this time the Selby Canal, stopping navigation to the river.

Once again it is a paddle failure putting the lock out of operation, with the navigation closed today 'until further notice', Keith Gudgin tells us.

Not a major navigation

However, the Selby Canal is not a major navigation, just a short waterway of some six miles off the Aire, so will not cause the disruption as did the record of eight in a week, earlier this month, of the major waterways.

No doubt boaters hope that this is not the start of another week of disruption to their cruises, especially as it is the start of the school holidays.
