Lack of residential moorings

Having come across your website I perused the letters and opinions. I am in the process of checking out moorings prior to purchasing a narrow boat. One thing I have noticed is the distinct lack of permanent/residential moorings. I want to have a home base for winter and cruise the system during the warmer months, writes David Harpin.

The cost and availability of these vary around the country so where do CaRT and others think the permanent moorers are to go. Even if the boaters could afford the fees required there are not enough places available.

Nowhere to go

I can see the occasional boaters' point but if these boaters have nowhere to go they will probably be priced off the canal taking much needed income to CaRT with them. With the amount of money from the government and CaRT decreasing I wonder who will make up the shortfall.

The guy who comes out every weekend cannot go very far so ends up at the same place. Maybe more 24 hour moorings could be made on the opposite side to the towpath. Off course there would have to be sufficient space but with no access to the towpath it might just work and just encourage single overnighters.
