More fencing for Manchester?

With another man drowning in the Rochdale Canal at Dulcie Street in Manchester, is there going to be a call for even more fencing being erected?

Steven MacDonald, 45, was found dead on Friday July 24th in the water at Dulcie Street at the junction of the Rochdale and Aston canals, and the police are asking for witnesses, and particularly wanting to contact any boaters moored at the basin on Wednesday 22nd when he was last seen in the area.

He had been drinking in the bars near the waterway early in the evening with friends, and was last seen at around 2am

A post-mortem examination has confirmed he had drowned but police are trying to establish how he came to be in the water.

Detective Inspector Richard Eales remarked:

"Steven's family are left devastated by his death, and want to know what happened to him. Our evidence suggests that Steven had been in the canal not long after he was last seen.

"We know that the area is a place sometimes used by men who are looking for sex with other men and I am appealing to anyone anywhere near the canal towpath at that time."
