Continuous moorer—and caravan!

ONE boater is really pushing his luck too far by parking a great static caravan by his unofficial moorings on the Leeds & Liverpool Canal in Wigan.

Without any permission he has arranged to have a caravan transported and sited just by the moorings outside the Crooke Hall Inn, that is causing an uproar.

Beauty spot

Considered a beauty spot with the pub lawn gently sloping down to the canal, all its beauty has gone with the arrival of a static living caravan outside its premises, with the staff looking on in amazement as it was offloaded from a lorry

Within days 15 official complaints have been lodged with the local council stating it is not a caravan site, and so demanding it takes action to have it removed.

15 official complaints

Now more than 15 official complaints have been lodged with the council demanding enforcement action to have the mobile home removed, with council officers attempting to trace the owner.

All Gates Brewery director David Mayhall told Wigan Today that he is leading the protest on behalf of the pub and Crooke village, stating:

"For a while we have been a little concerned about a number of boats that have been permanently moored to the west of Crooke Village bridge on the northern bank of the Leeds & Liverpool Canal in Crooke Village.

Again it is a matter where the mooring restrictions are not enforced, as he told that boats had been permanently moored there up to six months on restricted moorings.
