Introducing reeds

HAVING just completed the Avon Ring, for the second time in three years, we have noticed the new trend of BW/CaRT policy of introducing reeds to the canal network, writes Peter Ponting.

Three years ago the stretch of canal between Hanbury and Tibberton was clearly open and passable. Now it is just about possible to go through.

Canal will be closed

Having met a number of boats through the maze, and clearing our weed hatch twice. It is only a matter of time before this canal will be closed unless some drastic action is taken to remove the reeds.

I am the chairman of a local conservation association, and there is no way we would allow support to such a scheme, unsupervised, as to what is happening on the Worcester Birmingham Canal
