Free cake celebrates birthday

THERE will be a slice of free cake at Anderton Boat Lift—to celebrate the first birthday of Canal & River Trust.

That is providing that you first buy a hot drink on the day—Tuesday, 2nd July, then you will get a slice of cake, Alan Tilbury tells us.

Still enjoyed

Debbie Lumb, Head of Museums and Attractions explains:

"The 2nd of July is a historic date in the life of the waterways. It's amazing to think that when we walk along the towpath we are still enjoying the hard work of thousands of men and women who created the canals more the 250 years ago."

Volunteer coordinator Emma Hermon points out that they are incredibly lucky to have the help of many volunteers who support the work they do to showcase this working piece of heritage, but that there is a great range of volunteering opportunities at the boat lift, and she will be on site on CaRT's first birthday to meet anyone who is interested in getting involved.

There is no mention of using the £23,720 worth of bunting and flags that were purchased for the inauguration of CaRT, but were never used.
