Oxfam walk on K&A

THERE is to be an unusual sponsored walk on the Kennet & Avon Canal in June—with those taking part carrying buckets of water on their heads.

Water Walk, that will take place on the 30th June, to raise funds for Oxfam, is to raise awareness of the distance people in Africa have to walk to wells, to obtain their water, Alan Tilbury tells us.

Need not be full

The walk will start in Bath, taking in the Kennet & Avon towpath to Bradford on Avon, with those taking part being invited to carry a bucket of water for the distance, though the bucket need not be full!

Woman and girls, we are told, carry 20 litres of water on their heads an average distance of four miles.

The walk starts at 10am at Beckford Road bridge at Bath and ends some seven miles away at Bradford-on-Avon.
