THREE men, all in their 20's, have been arrested in connection with attacks by the Rochdale Canal at Castleton in Rochdale.A 50 years old man was attacked and thrown into the waterway besides Castleton Station suffering head injuries for which he was treated in hospital. A further younger man was also attacked, police believe by the same gang.

The police are appealing for witnesses to establish what happened and particularly want to speak to the woman who contacted them about the incidents.

PC Jacob Eaton stated:

"We really want to speak to the woman who first alerted us to the fight. She was shouting at us, clearly fearful about the violent fight that had kicked off nearby.

"However, I'm sure she wasn't the only innocent bystander caught up in this. There would have been a few people around at that time in the morning so I would also appeal to them to come forward."

It is understood there were boats in the vicinity at the time, with the crews possibly seeing the incidents.
