Barton Marina closed-off

BARTON Marina on the Trent & Mersey canal is closed-off whilst work on the bywash around Barton Lock takes place.

Stop planks are now in place and water is being pumped into the marina to maintain normal levels, Ralph Freeman writes.

Outside the level of the pound between Wychnor and Barton locks has been dropped by about a foot so that the bywash is no longer in use at Barton Lock.

Stop planks have been placed at the head of the lock to create a temporary weir.

The damage to the bywash occurred, if my memory serves me correctly during the 2009 season. The delay in repairing the minor damage led to further decay, such that a complete re-work is now being carried out. According to the stoppage notice issued by BW, the lock should be back in action around the 22nd of November.
