ONCE again the Standedge Tunnel & Visitor Centre will be launching it's month long celebration of local art with it's third ‘Artsfest' event.

On Saturday 31st July, the free art exhibition, held in the Thomas Bourne Room of the visitor centre, will feature a whole host of different art work from over 30 local artists.

Diversity of talent

The works on display will reflect the diversity of talent in the region and will include many genres such as Chinese ink and watercolours, wood engravings, acrylics, pastels, digital photography and metal relief sculptures.

In continuing Standedge's art theme a Craft and Gift Fair will be held this weekend (24/25th), with two days of crafts on sale by local craftspeople.

Special guest

There will also be a special guest appearance from famed poet, Simon Armitage at 8pm on Saturday night. Simon will be doing a special poetry reading as part of his journey along the Pennine Way.

James Dean, Visitor Services Manager at Standedge Tunnel & Visitor Centre  explained:

"Artsfest is an event we really enjoy here at Standedge as it's such a great way to start off the summer. It's fantastic to have so many local artists and craftspeople here to show off their talents as well as our extra special treat of welcoming Simon Armitage. With this event and others throughout the summer including Falconry Day and our world famous boat trips, we can't wait to get started."

The Artsfest exhibition will run from 10:30am to 4:00pm each day.
