Derwent Mouth Lock being repaired

Published: Friday, 16 July 2010

FOR MANY months narrowboatworld has been campaigning about the ever deteriorating state of a top gate of Derwent Mouth Lock where the Trent & Mersey Canal leaves the Trent.

Something is being done about it, as at last the powers that be realise that it could fail at any time with disastrous consequences should the top gate collapse when the bottom gates were open, as it would completely drain the pound up to Shardlow Lock, and possibly cause injury to anyone in a boat in the lock at the time.

It is being repaired next week, Thursday 22nd and Friday 23rd July, and it is hoped it will be completed by the Saturday morning.

Both the navigation and towpath will of course be closed.
