Work on the Monty

A TEAM of seven members of the Shropshire Union Canal Society met for an extra day onto their normal working party schedule last week.

This was on Thursday 24th June at Redwith, on the Montgomery Canal, to pour the new concrete invert to Prices Bridge, and fill the retaining wall block work at the Redwith end of the site, all poured in one session to reduce the equipment hire charges, Mike Friend, Restoration Project Manager writes.

This involved the use of a concrete pump in order to access the locations from a remote, accessible position for the ready mix delivery trucks.

They poured a total of 36.5 cubic metres of C20 grade concrete, in two pours. This giving enough time for the concrete to harden prior to continuing with further channel profiling and wash wall construction at their regular work party weekends.

This is the second time the society have used this method the other being to install the foundations for the retaining wall.
