A WOMAN fell into the Leeds & Liverpool Canal at Skipton, was rescued, then fell in again, and is now in a critical condition in hospital.

The 50 years old woman was rescued by a young girl after she fell into the canal the first time, then she climbed on to a nearby narrowboat, then fell off the deck into the water again.

Officer jumped in

The young woman called the emergency services, and a police officer jumped into the waterway to save the woman, giving her resuscitation, before she was taken to hospital.

A chief inspector commended his officer for his quick-thinking action, which helped to save the woman's life.
