Another Llangollen Marina

THERE are plans for yet another marina on the Llangollen Canal near to Trevor Basin, and an extension to the waterway.

Plas Kynaston Canal and Marina Group want to extend the canal half a mile beyond Trevor to build a marina for 60 boats on the former Flexsys site. Alan Tilbury reveals.

The proposals for the  marina, which could cost an estimated £15 million, is to include a working forge or museum displaying some of the items made at Plas Kynaston Iron foundry by William Hazeldine for Thomas Telford.

Rival Ironbridge

Group spokesman Dave Metcalfe explained:

"This former industrial site can become a centrepiece for Wrexham county with a tourist count, within 10 years, to rival that of Ironbridge in Shropshire. It will improve the economy, it will provide jobs and it will stabilise Cefn Mawr and surrounding villages."

However, Dave pointed out that though the group had some finance behind it, it would also be looking for grants if the scheme were to be agreed. He has obtained over 2,000 signatures in support of the venture and is hoping for more.
