Vandals drain Titford Canal

VANDALS have damaged the paddles on locks on the Titford Canal, jamming the mechanism open, draining the waterway.

The water level in the pound is drastically reduced, and moored narrowboats now on the bottom, Alan Tilbury relates.

It is at Oldbury where the damaged has occurred,  and with a Birmingham Canal Navigation Society festival being held next weekend, water will have to be pumped to fill the pound.

Narrowboater Terry Grainger explained:

"They have opened the lock and the water has drained from the top level into the bottom level and now has to be pumped back.

"This is the second time this has happened and it is just mindless. The narrowboats that are moored there permanently have hit the bottom of the canal and now we are worried the fresh fish we put in there have died too."
