Council closes Nene facilities

TO SAVE money Peterborough council  is closing boaters' facilities on the Nene, but creating a problem.

The facilities for rubbish along the Embankment in the city have been closed, but boaters, with the Environment Agency also closing facilities, are left with no option but to use the inadequate public bins.

The facilities also contained toilets and showers, which the council claim is now saving it £80,000 by closing various facilities.  Last year the EA closed similar facilities along the waterway.

The result of course, with nowhere for boaters to leave their rubbish, is that litter is now spreading along the Embankment.
