Art for the Kennet & Avon

Published: Monday, 03 May 2010

TO CELEBRATE the 200th anniversary of the Kennet & Avon Canal, public art work is planned for the towpath of the canal.

The venture is by British Waterways, Kennet & Avon Trust and Bath & North East Somerset Council, and is planned for a length of the towpath where the canal meets the Avon in Bath.

A spokesman for the organisers explained:

"We are seeking artist proposals for a commemorative public art work to mark the bicentenary.  The Kennet & Avon is one of the best loved canals in the UK's inland waterway network, visited by millions of people each year. The towpath is a valued green corridor close to Bath city centre and a tranquil environment and educational resource for wildlife study and interest."

The art work is costed at £10,000.
