New plans for Marsworth

Published: Friday, 09 April 2010

AFTER the failure of former plans, British Waterways is holding a public exhibition on revised proposals to redevelop Marsworth Yard at the junction of the Grand Union Canal and Aylesbury Arm.

A spokesman for BW tells us the previous planning application for fourteen homes on the site was withdrawn earlier this year after it listened to concerns that had been raised, which included the loss of an original stone-built carpenter's building on the largely derelict site and the off site relocation of boaters facilities.

Complained

Many boaters complained of the original plans, and particularly the possible lack of facilities, and so we are told  a revised scheme is now being consulted upon which seeks to make a 'positive contribution to the canal and address the issues previously raised'. This includes the retention of the stone built building, the protection of boater's facilities and enhancement of the wharf side area of the site.

The revised proposals will be on display at:

11.30am to 2.30 pm on Saturday 17th April at the Millennium Hall, Marsworth.

5pm to 9pm on Tuesday 20th April in the Canal Bar at the White Lion pub, Startops End.
