Amphibious bus broke down
A BUS, that is designed to avoid congestion by using the Clyde in Glasgow as well as roads broke down on its second outing.
The trials of the 'amfibus' on the river were abandoned as it developed a problem with its suspension as it drove up the slipway at Renfrew.
The operators of the 'amfibus', Stagecoach, were undertaking a two days demonstration of the bus between Renfrew and Yoker when the fault developed, but engineers are fixing the problem.
The bus had completed two runs on the Clyde, and was half an hour into the two hours trail when the problem occurred, but it is seen as part of the challenge of the new venture.
The £700,000 vehicle can carry up to 50 passengers, and is based on a bus chassis, but uses a hull that allows the vehicle to float. It operates like a normal coach on the road, but when it is in water it is driven by twin water jets and can achieve a top speed of eight knots.
