A book on the Wilts & Berks

Published: Wednesday, 06 January 2010

ONE of the volunteers of the Wilts & Berks Canal Trust is preparing a book on the disused waterway.

Peter Williams, who has been a member of the trust for around 20 years, is researching for his book which he states will cover the entire history of the canal between Semington and Lacock.

He has found documents and maps which have been hidden for decades, and is appealing for people to help with further information which couldĀ  show the important part it played in the local community.

Joined Kennet & Avon

Peter is researching the history of its construction and use of the waterway from where it joined the Kennet & Avon Canal at Semington to where the narrowboats unloaded their goods on the wharf at Lacock.

The trust is at present slowly bringing the derelict canal to life, with its members working on various projects, with some sections having been restored and rewatered.
