Funding for canalside development

FUNDING of £6 millions has been secured for Stoke's City Waterside development by the Trent & Mersey Canal in the city.

The funding package will be used for preparation of a new mixed use development and highway and infrastructure works, which will include a new factory for Bridgewater Pottery and 250 new homes, Roger Fox tells us.

Canalside cafés, restaurants and shops, as well as the potential development of an art gallery, have been included in proposals drawn up by Nord architects, with a large area of commercial space.

Start early next year

It is hoped that the preparatory work will get underway early next year, with construction work on the main development to start in Spring 2011.

Brian Ward, Cabinet Member for Regeneration,  explained:

"Development has slowed during the recession, but we are determined to prepare the way for the upturn by putting in place the infrastructure for new housing and insisting on the highest quality designs."
